About Us
NWI Utilities was created for one simple reason: People deserve fair, transparent, and accountable utility services.
About NWI Utilities
This is a passion project built for everyone in Northwest Indiana. Families, seniors, renters, homeowners, small businesses, and anyone who depends on essential NIPSCO and other utilities to live and work.
The Story That Started It All
NWI Utilities began with a story that should never be ignored.
In a powerful piece published by PanoramaNow, local resident Sue Baxter brought attention to a devastating reality: over 130,000 homes in Northwest Indiana facing potential utility shutoffs due to enormous rate increases.
- Not because people stopped paying attention.
- Not because they stopped caring.
- But because the system became harder to understand, harder to challenge, and harder to survive.
That story made one thing clear: Too many people are being left in the dark—literally and figuratively.

Support the Mission
NWI Utilities is a community driven initiative. Support comes from sharing information, staying informed, and helping bring visibility to issues that impact families across Northwest Indiana and beyond.
Why This Site Exists
NIPSCO and utilities are not a luxury. They are essential. Yet for many residents, utility pricing, rate changes, billing practices, and shutoff policies feel confusing, opaque, and stacked against everyday people. NWI Utilities exists to change that.
Our mission is to:
- Provide clear, accessible information about utility rates and changesv
- Help residents understand their rights and options
- Bring visibility to issues that are often buried in fine print
- Give the community a shared voice when something feels unjust
This site is not about politics. | It’s not about profit. | It’s about people.
Built for Northwest Indiana, Designed to Scale Nationwide
While NWI Utilities is rooted in Northwest Indiana, the challenges we’re facing here are not unique.
- Rising utility costs.
- Lack of transparency.
- Disproportionate impacts on working families and seniors.
What starts here can, and should, become a model for communities across the country. Our goal is to set a new standard for how residents engage with utility providers, regulators, and decision-makers nationwide.
Local action. National impact.
Who’s Behind NWI Utilities
Sue Baxter
NWI Utilities exists because of the courage and persistence of Sue Baxter, a Northwest Indiana resident who spoke up when too many families were facing utility shutoffs due to overwhelming rate increases.
Through her firsthand experience and her willingness to share what was happening in our community, Sue helped bring visibility to an issue affecting tens of thousands of households. Her story, shared through PanoramaNow, became a catalyst for awareness, conversation, and action.
Sue represents the voice of everyday residents—people who ask hard questions, demand transparency, and refuse to accept unjust outcomes as “just the way things are.” Her advocacy is a reminder that meaningful change often begins with one person choosing not to stay silent.
John Marx
NWI Utilities is supported and maintained by John Marx, founder of Fawkes Digital Marketing. John previously lived in Northwest Indiana for over half his life and currently resides in Alabama. John runs the Valpo Shelter and other services that are made to help men, women, families, and the homeless.
This Is For Everyone
Whether you’re struggling to keep up with rising bills, trying to understand a rate increase, helping a loved one avoid a shutoff, or simply believe NIPSCO and other utilities should be fair and accountable then this site is for you.
NWI Utilities stands for:
- Transparency over confusion
- Advocacy over silence
- Community over complacency
