Gary Common Council Places NIPSCO on Official Notice

gary indiana common council places nipsco on official notice

The Gary Common Council has taken an important step by passing a resolution placing NIPSCO on official notice over excessive delivery charges, rising utility burdens, and the growing hardship these costs are causing for Gary residents.

Families across our city have reported utility bills with delivery fees that are stretching household budgets to the breaking point, forcing many to choose between keeping the lights on and paying for food, rent, or medication. The resolution demands transparency, public accountability, and a clear explanation of how these charges are being calculated.

The measure also calls for a public hearing in Gary so residents can directly question NIPSCO leadership, while encouraging the city to participate in future regulatory proceedings and explore lawful alternatives that could lower costs. This is about standing up for working people, seniors, and struggling households who deserve fair treatment and affordable essential services.

“This resolution shows that Gary residents are tired of being squeezed by rising costs with little explanation,” stated Preston Ruby, a Gary Indiana Resident and leader of a recent Gary protest. “Utility service is a necessity, not a luxury, and the people of Gary deserve transparency, accountability, and relief.”
