Breaking News . . . LaPorte Indiana
On Thursday, January 29th, 2026 the NIPSCO’s Schafer Generating Plant’s (Wheatfield Indiana) electric grid buckled under the winter load, saving thousands of LaPorte Residents from loosing their heat. What actually saved the day was the Units 17 and 18 that the “NIPSCO executives” have been trying to get rid of.
The Department of Energy had to step in with Order No. 202-25-12, because of the “Green Dream” operation failures, literally forcing NIPSCO to keep units 17 and 18 running until March 23, 2026. Why? Because without those coal-fired boilers, the grid is a hollow shell.
Employees at the Schafer Generating plant were watching a crisis take place, when demand was running at 110% capacity. While NIPSCO regulators are saying that coal is so unreliable and expensive, something had to be done and quickly.
Questions remain as to why NIPSCO stopped maintenance on Unit 14 in order to “transition” to wind and solar under the guise of going “green.”
This “ugly” coal was the only thing that saved the day and kept thousands from loosing their heat in LaPorte, Indiana. Thanks to the MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator) and DOE for declaring a FEDERAL EMERGENCY yesterday to keep these coal units running, and to keep them running through March 23,2026?
